Mytholgy in the Lion King essays
Mytholgy in the Lion King papers However, Simba, you are the legitimate leader of Pride Rock! shouts Nala, Simbas tragically deceased companion. Well perhaps I dont need to be top dog! Simba says. In the wake of viewing the film, The Lion King, I understood that folklore was certainly a piece of the film. It relates a great deal from multiple points of view. As I watched it, I took out the key components of folklore in the film. Im here to contend the point and reveal to you the reasons that The Lion King is a fanciful story. Above all else, one key component in the film that I discovered was administering a specific realm of town. In The Lion King, King Mufasa is the leader of Pride Rock, which is where the light contacts. Albeit all the creatures follow his order, it doesnt mean he has a tyranny over Pride Rock. Ruler Mufasa counsels the creatures to discover what is the best outcome. Then again, In the book, The Odyssey, Odysseus is the leader of his city, which is the island of Ithaca. When you think about a saint, what do you see? Do you see an intense, valiant man doing anything to satisfy you? On the off chance that you were biting the dust, do you figure this saint would spare you? At the point when I consider legend in the film, Simba immediately rings a bell. He faced numerous challenges a legend would do. For instance, one hazard Simba took was returning home to Pride Rock. He never at any point needed to confront the past again yet he vanquished his dread and returned to crush Scar and win his realm again. At the point when I consider legend in folklore, the name Hercules strikes a chord. He was a genuine legend, continually helping individuals and attempting his best. A legend doesnt fundamentally need to consistently spare individuals. They simply need to consistently be attempting their best and vanquishing what they really think ought to be. Ever despised getting deceived by somebody? Did it trouble you? In The Lion King, Simba was deceived by a great deal of creatures. Most importantly, Simba was deceived by his Uncle Scar. Scar is certainly a cheat from numerous points of view. ... <!

The Letters From The Civil War Time - Free Essay Example
The Civil War of 1861 to 1865, was the premise of a change that would forever alter the face of a diverged country. The conflict between the North and the South involved problems starting with militia precursors, to moral and economic struggles. The Civil War would not be understood without being recorded through the words of soldiers and their families. Historical letters contain such details. Letters such as the one from Ruth Maria Strong, who was writing to her son in 1862 warning him about a typhoid fever going around, while still providing him with the only thing more important than the war her motherly love. Another letter in that same year, written by Captain Charles Scott, described the horrors of one of the deadliest battles; Battle of Shiloh. In his 4-page letter he describes the morning of the attack, as well as writing about his coward troops. This type of context helps gain a better understanding of the lives of troops during the Civil War, as well as sympathize for them in the sense that they are risking their lives in what would become one of the biggest wars for America. To begin with, when looking back at the Civil War, soldiers from opposing sides can be seen as savages, but within those conniving minds, there is an individual that loves them. Such proof can be found in letters such as the one from Ruth Maria Strong, who was writing to her son. Union soldier, Arthur Tappan Strong, was a 42nd Ohio Volunteer that was under the control of Colonel James Garfield. Showing indications of motherly love, Ruth states, I sent you one pair of socks, which mother knit for her soldier boy, may he live to need more (Strong, 1862). Documentation like this suggests that Ruth was merely concerned for her sons life. Her letter also shows how sending knitted socks to her son was a reoccurring event in her life, and she is willing to make more for him, if he lives. The main point here is that there is an obvious worry lurking in Ruths mind. Furthermore, in the second page of her letter she also writes, We hear that the typhoid fever is among you (ibid). This is a very spine-chilling statement that must be horrific to read as a troop. The typhoid fever was an infectious disease that is received by drinking or eating contaminated food, and this was what took the lives of 80,000 soldiers during the Civil War. Ruth is explaining to her son what to do if he is exposed with typhoid fever. She is giving him several instructions, such as getting pure air, being as quite as possible, and to wash with tepid castile soap, (ibid). As a soldier in active duty, the last thing they would have wanted to agonize about is getting infected. The typhoid fever was ironically not only the cause of Arthurs death, but the deaths of 65,000 Confederate and Union troops. As it happens, life as a soldier was all but an enjoyable excursion. They had to spend most of their time fighting off other problems such as; lice, ticks, chiggers, and mosquito s (America: A Narrative History, 2016). This goes to show that Arthurs death was a tragedy that was bound to transpire. The chances to have survived these different afflictions in a time of poor medical advancements, was all but pleasurable. The fact that Ruth had to write to her son apprehensively about a deathly fever could make readers feel a hint of compassion for those who were seen as the enemy. Equally significant, with the many battles of the Civil War, there is one prestigious clash to mention; The Battle of Shiloh in 1962. After Grant made a costly mistake in revealing 42,000 of his soldiers in the eyes of Confederate General Johnston, the Union was attacked at a surprise (America: A Narrative Story, 2016). Nevertheless, it consisted of a Union victory in the sense that Commander Ulysses S. Grant fired a counteroffensive amongst the line known as Hornets Nest. With this tactic, the North was able to overpower Confederate forces, and advance them further into the northern Mississippi (Battle of Shiloh Facts Summary, 2018). Moreover, letters from troops of the Battle of Shiloh is a rarity. One significant letter that was written in 1963 from Captain Charles Scott, is exceptional in showing the horrors of the battle. In his letter, Scott writes to his wife the morning of the attack, I do not yet know what may be the result, but from the persistency of the attack, there mus t be a heavy loss on both sides (Scott, 1962). What Scott meant with this phrase was that he believed the battle was going to be bloody he was right. The Union had a count of 13,047 casualties, while the Confederates had 10,667. One key point in his letter was that he mentioned some of his men were cowards for trying to retreat to grasp protection in the boats. I saw them drown. And I assure you they were the first Men I ever saw drown that I was willing to stand and look on without trying to render them assistance (ibid). Many would consider this to be a deceitful action by Scott in letting his own men die, but in reality, those men that were trying to escape, were not dutiful in the Union. This proves that even while succeeding, several men in the Union could not seize to do anymore fighting, especially when participating in the horrors of the Battle of Shiloh. To conclude, both the letter from Ruth Maria Strong, and Captain Charles Scott have one thing in common the negatives. Ruth Maria Strong has shown love towards her son when he most needed it. In her mind, the idea about her sons death ponders within her mind, but that doesnt let her have a whit of ambition. Charles Scott on the other hand, within experiencing what no one else could imagine in todays world, closed his letter with saying that he had not slept in 60 hours, and assures his love to his wife Anna (Scott, 1962). Both letters are in no sense of the same topic, but they do present a clear idea of the Civil War for the North in 1862.

Personal Statement On Social Work - 912 Words
Prompt #1 My intended major is Sociology. Once I earn my degree I intend to find a career in either social work or teaching. In choosing social work my focus will be low income families and programs that decrease social inequality. As a child I yearned for the ability to help people, to change someoneââ¬â¢s life for the better and give them back the strength and hope they have lost through lifeââ¬â¢s battles. I gained this eagerness to provide assistance when my parents brought me to their homeland of Guatemala. Guatemala is a very poor country and I saw the despair and hopelessness of many while others still strived every day to elevate the lives of their family amidst poverty. As I got older those thoughts were always on my mind. It wasnââ¬â¢t until I took a sociology class my senior year in high school that I learned about social work and its role in serving those in need. Learning about social welfare programs brought back all my memories and reassured me there were careers that fit my aspirations. At Glendale College I took more Sociology courses and found it to be a perfect fit for me. My favorite class was Introduction to Social Work since it introduced me to different sub fields within social work, working with homeless, distressed and low incomed families. Leadership Theory And Practice Of Leadership - 874 Words
Throughout the entire course of this class, I have been asked to fill out different self-assessments related to whatever topic or approach to leadership Peter Northouse (2013) was discussing in his book Leadership Theory and Practice. Each one of these self-assessments were intended to help me in discovering who I was as a person and a leader. Some of the leadership self-assessments included the Least Preferred Coworker Measure from the Contingency Theory chapter, the Leader-Member Exchange Questionnaire from the Leader-Member Exchange Theory chapter, and the Servant Leadership Questionnaire from the chapter that discussed Servant Leadership. Many of these questionnaires I found to be very effective in helping me discover more about my personality traits and leadership style. Before going through this journey of self-discovery, my view of leadership was accurately described by John C. Maxwell ââ¬Å" Leadership is influence.â⬠(Maxwell, para. 25, 2012). I believed, before taking this class and Northouseââ¬â¢s (2013) assessments, leaders were defined by the extent to which they could influence others to achieve company goals. I thought that, when discussing leadership, the leader was the most important aspect of the leader-member dyad and that it was the leader who had the greatest influence over how successful the organization was. Currency and Low Valued Yuan free essay sample
Kerimova Aysha Wal-Mart and the Yuan Debate 1. Why is the value of the yuan so important? Wal-Martââ¬â¢s business strategy relies on low production costs which it can pass on to its customers. If Wal-Mart were a country then it would be Chinaââ¬â¢s eighth largest trading partner ahead of Russia, Australia, and Canada. Wal-Martââ¬â¢s non-Chinese owned suppliers operating in China number nearly 5,000 and all of them benefit from a low valued yuan compared to the dollar. The 176 million worldwide customers of Wal-Mart also benefit from the low valued yuan. With nearly 70% of Wal-Martââ¬â¢s products coming from China a sharp increase in the value of the yuan against the dollar can be devastating for the company as the increased costs for Wal-Mart and would most likely passed on to customers. It could also hurt American customers whom Wal-Mart claims it saves the average household roughly $2,500 dollars every year. 2. If you were the CEO of Wal-Mart and were preparing for a meeting with the most vocal members of the US Congress on Chinaââ¬â¢s currency ââ¬Å"manipulationâ⬠, what would you say to them? I would point out that while it may be politically easy to blame China especially when it comes to an uniformed electorate, the rise in costs associated with policies aimed at encouraging China to lets its yuan to appreciate against the dollar will do harm in other ways. Average Americans (also known as voters) will feel an appreciated yuan in their wallets. China may be an easy target, but the higher costs American consumers pay due to policies pursued by members of congress is another hot topic that potential voters will respond to. Finally increased costs means Wal-Mart will have to take actions to keep profits up to keep shareholders happy. This may mean cutting workforce which in this current economic environment where so many Americans are looking for work would not be a good thing. I would also point out that Chinaââ¬â¢s yuan value against the dollar is not entirely due to simple government manipulation. In fact since 2005 amid pressure from the United States the yuan has risen 23% in value against the dollar. Analysts believe that the yuan will depreciate as much as one percent this year not because of government manipulation, but because of slowed economic growth which has decreased Chinaââ¬â¢s trade surpluses 3. Should Wal-Mart do something about the US trade deficit with China? There is an obvious incentive for Wal-Mart to pursue actions to keep yuan value low compared to the US dollar. In the long run it may be beneficial to play an active role in reducing or at least preparing for the reduction of the US trade deficit as a result of a stronger yuan. The United States has enjoyed being its currency being the world standard for many decades, but as other countries like China gain on the US economically there is a movement to change the US dollarââ¬â¢s status. Just a few months ago China and Japan announced that the two countries will begin trading currencies directly instead of using the US dollar as an intermediary Wal-Mart can prepare by hedging against currency fluctuations. If it hedges in anticipation of a yuan appreciation it can avoid the higher costs it would incur from its suppliers. Also forward contracts could be another strategy. Wal-Mart could agree to make a future purchase at current currency rates. These strategies are relatively short term solutions. In the long term Wal-Mart will have to do several things. First it will have to find other ways to reduce costs. This may mean finding other nations that may have a comparative advantage in the production of goods compared to China. It could also promote a ââ¬Å"buy Americanâ⬠marketing campaign if it is forced to return some of its goods production back to the US do to politics or the economics of the time. It can also pursue new markets. It currently operates 3,600 stores in 15 other countries. Finally in the long run the company structure and strategy may have to be revisited. 4. Assuming that the yuan will appreciate further against the dollar, what should Wal-Mart do? There are several strategies that Wal-Mart can employ to deal with an appreciating yuan. First, is hedging against currency inflation. This can be done through forward transactions. For example Wal-Mart can agree to purchase a certain amount of a particular product in the future for the current currency exchange rate. If the yuan appreciates against the dollar (also referred to as a Forward Discount) then Wal-Mart saved money, but if the yuan were to depreciate (also known as a Forward Premium) then Wal-Mart would lose money. (Peng, 2011) It can also engage in Strategic Hedging. That is it can spread its currency hedging activities though out a number of different countries to mitigate the risks associated with dealing with only one other country. The idea is if Wal-Mart were to lose in a currency exchange bet in one country those loses could be made up by another currency xchange gamble from another country. The company can also look into strategies that cut costs. In 2010 Wal-Mart in an effort to cut costs consolidated its store purchasing. The effort put Wal-Mart in an ever increasing position to buy directly from manufacturers. Before Wal-Mart has utilized and still does third party companies to purchase goods across the world. Wal-Martââ¬â¢s intended long term goal is to become its own buy er for 80 percent of its products. It is estimated that buying directly will save Wal-Mart anywhere from $4billion to $12 billion annually.

Also while testing the household chemical Brite, It was observed that the Bromthymol Blue changed to a green color that was not observed in any other test involving BTB. Questions A. Suppose a household product label says it contains sodium hydrogen carbonate (sodium bicarbonate). How would you test this material for the presence of sodium bicarbonate? To test for the presence of sodium bicarbonate you could collect a sample of the household product and add HCl to it and see if you observe any CO2 bubbles. B. You know what color phenolphthalein and bromothymol blue turn when testing an acid or a base. Use the empty pipet in the Auxiliary Supplies Bag to test several (at least 3) household items including household cleaning products with bromothymol blue. Rinse the pipet well before using it on the next household chemical. When finished with this experiment rinse the pipet well and return it to the Auxiliary Bag for use in future experiments. Name the items tested and record their results. What do these results mean? Refer to the last 3 rows of Data Table 1 for results and observations of the household chemicals. C. You found a sample of a solution that has a faint odor resembling vinegar. You are verifying that it is indeed vinegar and you add a few drops of phenolphthalein. The sample turns pink. What assumption can you make about this sample? You can assume that the solution is not vinegar because vinegar is an acid and phenolphthalein only turns a basic solutions pink. D. You decided to investigate if the new wave of Vitamin Water is pH neutral: neither too acidic nor too basic. Using BTB (bromothymol blue), you select five flavors of Vitamin Water to test. Three of the flavorà samples turn a murky green, indicating the likelihood of acid/base balance. Of the two remaining, one turns slightly yellow, while one remains b lue. What can you assume about the acid/base content of these particular flavors of Vitamin Water? You can assume that the vitamin water that stayed blue has a more basic content while the vitamin water that turned slightly yellow has a more acidic content then the three vitamin waters that turned murky green. E. You have read that a new brand of hair tonic is supposed to contain lead (an ingredient in Grecian Formula). Devise a simple test to confirm the presence or absence of lead in that hair tonic. A simple experiment to test for the presence or absence of lead would involve adding potassium iodide to a sample of the hair tonic. If you observe a yellow and chalky looking precipitate when you add the Kl there is most likely lead in the hair tonic. The Hitchhiker`s Guide to the Galaxy Essays
The Hitchhiker`s Guide to the Galaxy Essays The Hitchhiker`s Guide to the Galaxy Paper The Hitchhiker`s Guide to the Galaxy Paper Absolutely! The Hitchhikerââ¬â¢s Guide narrates the tales of a low-profile small-town Englishman, Arthur Dent, who whooshes off with his friend and guide, Ford Prefect, a prominent intergalactic being temporarily residing in a human form on the earth, on a series of space adventures. From the outset it is obvious that Arthur Dent is no hero nor a role model. Yet, he is a character many of us, especially dreaming and fantasy-prone youngsters, can identify with. Many of us too hail from humble non-descript beginnings and, regardless, some of us certainly desire to be one day involved in matters of ultimate importance to the universe, just as Arthur Dent does in Douglas Adamsââ¬â¢s classic tale. Human nature consists of this supreme ambition to reach to the stars. We can laugh at it, we can make fun of it, we can even try to forget it, but not for too long can we get rid of it. There is a deep impulse within the human soul to reach the hand for the skies and set foot on distant worlds, whether we acknowledge it or not, and whether this be in a physical sense or in some symbolical sense. The Earth is our home, but the Universe is our home too, both being a part of the same continuum. It is for this reason precisely that the rather ingenuous character of Arthur strikes such a deep chord with us. Behind the form of SF spoof and satire, we can occasionally sense Adams addressing some deep human longings of meaning and being. Teenagers are full of such longing, it is very for this longing to be connected to the vastness of the universe in some way. The Hitchhikerââ¬â¢s Guide, in its own nonchalant and beguiling manner, can stretch our minds to a higher dimension. The universe is an infinite mystery. However, instead of being intimidated by its endless vastness, or being petrified in sheer awe of it, one has to learn just to take things in oneââ¬â¢s stride, and keep moving on. More than a central message or philosophy, Adams projects a certain attitude in his book. And it certainly rubs off on the young readers of the book, which is what perhaps explains the cult status of this novel. Thinking and philosophy, the incessant seeking and searching for answers ââ¬â they are integral part of what we are and give us humans a sense of purpose and direction in life; without them we would be lost. Yet we can perhaps find a new dimension of ourselves which is quite at home with the universe, without the agency of a thinking mind acting either as a medium or as a barrier. Thinking is our most precious treasure, yet keeping it aside and being unburdened of it, even if only for a short while, and thereby connecting to the universe directly, can give rise to new perceptions and a new sense of exhilaration. The Hitchhikerââ¬â¢s Guide may seem like light satire that is designed to have fun at the expense of human values, beliefs, and intelligence (and sometimes particularly in a British context), but consciously or unconsciously, Adams has interwoven into the strands of its narrative some subtle themes and messages which are of deeper significance. This book does not take anything seriously, especially itself ââ¬â and therein lies its essence. Yet in its own way it makes us think seriously about ourselves and the universe. It is an indirect, fun-filled and disarming approach to provoke some serious questions in us, the same questions it seemingly makes a mockery of. Every high school senior has to learn what the ultimate truth is. The ultimate answer to everything, after all, is so simple - it isâ⬠¦ well, 42! Effect of Tax on the Selling of Apples in a Small Scale Assignment
Effect of Tax on the Selling of Apples in a Small Scale - Assignment Example This scenario takes two rounds or instances of selling and the supplierââ¬â¢s interest are the amount of profit. According to the data, in round 1 the supplier sold a bushel of apples at $10 and the second round at $19. The formula to calculate profit is: In the second set of data, session #1 has apples sold for every unit from 1 to 20. The indication is that the demand for the apples is high when there is no tax charged during the buying and selling of the apples. The demand for the apples in the experiment is less elastic than the supply. In the second session, the supplier bears the tax burden. In the experiment, the apple supplier still has a seller cost of $18 for a bushel of apples. Above the seller cost, the supplier must pay a sales tax of $15. However, if the seller does not sell any apples, he does not pay either seller cost or sales tax. From the record of prices and profits, the supplier never sold a bushel of apples in either round 1 or 2 showing a significant decline in the profits to zero when the supplier pays the tax. From the second data set, session #2 indicates a drop in the supply of the apples. In the first 14 units sold, the sellers supply pattern indicates some increase in volumes of the sales of apple. On the other hand, from 15 to 20 units, the seller never sold any apples due to the high costs from taxes. The tax burden shifts to buyers in the third session. The supplier of apples in the first set of data does not sell any apples due to drop in demand since the buyers deter from buying. In the second data set, the buyers could still afford the bushel of apples for up to 12 units sold. From 13 to 20 units, the supplier does not sell any apples. This experiment uses a method of comparative statistics to analyze the effect of the tax on demand and supply. The economic theory that comes into play in this scenario is the optimal tax theory. This theoryà suggests the best way to affect taxation with minimal distortion of the demand and supply. According to this theory, the sales tax imposed on suppliers and buyers has the same effect; reducing the demand and supply.

Paul's Case Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Paul's Case - Essay Example Indeed, many a times, the cheerful exterior hides the treacherous thoughts and conflicts that could lead to dangerous outcome. Catherââ¬â¢s characterization of Paul as a deviant personality is highly intriguing. It raises pertinent questions of adjustment of the same within the parameters of social controls like family institution and educational institutes. Paulââ¬â¢s disdain towards these social institutions is serious in its content. The main reason being the authorities fail to understand the reasons behind his continued misdemeanors. Despite the threats of expulsion from the school, Paul exhibits a careful indifference for the rules. When he is called to the Principalââ¬â¢s office for explanation, all the teachers come together against him. Indeed, Catherââ¬â¢s observation that the stoic demeanor of Paul forces the teachers to be ââ¬Ëhumiliated to have felt so vindictive toward a mere boyââ¬â¢. The authorââ¬â¢s portrayal of Paul encompasses diverse human emotions that are difficult to understand by the people, especially by his teachers. Indeed, the inability to reform a ââ¬Ëmere boyââ¬â¢ is not only frustrating for the teachers but it also shows a decisive lack of will to understand the complex nature of Paul. Paulââ¬â¢s relationship with his father and sister is also not very cordial. The confined environment of his home and conservative attitude of his father are shown as major issues. Through Paulââ¬â¢s story, the author is probably trying to show how the society tries to manipulate the characters of the young people and suppress their natural inclinations. Paul is hugely attracted to the imagery lives of artists. he portrays the surrealist of the character through his role of ââ¬Ëusher of the theatreââ¬â¢ where he imagines himself in the company of the artists and celebrities. Interestingly his make believe world becomes his only medium of being happy. When Paulââ¬â¢s lies and deceit are revealed, he is taken out of the school. But Paul, as the

A law presentation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
A law presentation - Essay Example High Court can be traced back to 1980 in the Capital of Australia, Canberra, where most sittings held there. High court exercises original jurisdiction and appellate jurisdiction. The court interprets common law for the entire Australia. Its broad jurisdiction corresponds to Supreme Court of Canada. This makes it develop the common law consistently across all territories and states, which is the most significant role of the Court. The broad jurisdiction array allows the high court take the lead in Australian laws, and this contributes to uniformity and consistency in laws for different states.2 In this case, the plaintiff, TCL, manufactures air conditioners in China, and it entered into distributorship agreement with the Castel Co. that is registered in Australia. Dispute arose when Castel alleged of the agreement breach by TCL. As a result, Castel started arbitration in 2008 in pursuant of clause 12(1) of their agreement. The TCL opposed the claims and counter-claimed against Castel. When the two claims were presented in High Court, the arbitral tribunal came up with two awards.3 In December 2010, Castel was awarded $2.8M, and in January 2011, Castel was awarded $732,500, and it thereafter proceeded to federal court to enforce arbitral awards based on International Arbitration Act of 1974.2 On January 2012, justice Murphy held that Federal Court was jurisdicted to determine the application of Castel. This pursued the article 35 and 36 of the trade law of the United Nations Commission. The case proceeded to the final hearing, where Justice Murphy in April 2012 reserved the judgment. In July 2012, TCL filed a Show Cause Application. This sought for restraining the defendant from enforcing arbitral awards. In August 2012, Justice Gummow refereed the case in Full Court for the final hearing. Some of the considerations in the high count were the empowerment of an examiner to conduct

How to Achieve Happiness Essay -- Happiness Essays
"Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be." -- Abraham Lincoln According to Cambridge's Online Dictionary, happiness is a state of mind or feeling characterized by contentment, satisfaction, pleasure, or joy. There are a number of attributes that correlate with happiness: relationships and social interaction, extroversion, marital status, employment, health, democratic freedom, optimism, religious involvement, income, and proximity to other happy people. Because the concept of happiness is complex and hard to measure, many people believe that happiness is mysterious, elusive, and totally out of their control. This is not true. Actually, happiness is a choice. Each person can decide whether to be happy or not. Wilhelm von Humboldt, a German philosopher, said, ââ¬Å"I am...

Associates vs Bachelor Degree in Nursing Essay
Bachelor degree nursing programs are highly regarded for the skilled, clinical thinking, and professionalism of nurses they provide for the community. Obtaining a baccalaureate in nursing provides the same skills and knowledge encompassed in most associateââ¬â¢s programs, while allowing a broadened look into research, public health, management, and humanities (AACN IENP, 2012). Many facilities are now providing incentives for nursing staff to continue their education; from tuition reimbursement, an increase in pay, and played time off for the sole purpose of education. Research has proven that with a more educated nursing populous there is a decrease in morality rates and medication errors, and it also provides more positive outcomes (AACN Fact Sheet, 2012). With such a high demand for nurses, the scope of nursing has become more comprehensive with a larger responsibility being placed on nurses. All of this has shown not only to the medical field but also policymakers and other leaders of the community that a higher level of education not only makes a difference, but many feel it should be a requirement. The difference between a baccalaureate and associates degree program may seem obscure at first, but looking into the information and research that students learn in a four year program verses a three year program can be shocking. When looking into the core requisites needed to graduate with a bachelors verses an associates, some obvious differences are the higher levels of English, math, communication, and pathophysiology required to graduate with a BSN. Also, the higher level course work required to complete a bachelors shows the necessity of critical thinking and research a nurse needs to even graduate. Once past the prerequisites required for a bachelorââ¬â¢s in nursing we have to exam the nursing course work itself. As stated before, most of the associates program is incorporated in a bachelors degree; with an associates the clinical experience is more limited to the clinical setting hospitals, nursing skilled facilities, and rehab centers, where as many bachelors programs also included public and community projects. Bachelors programs also put a broader focus on ethics, religion and spirituality, research, global awareness and public health, as well as nursing leadership and management (GCU, n. d. ). Nursing care is focused on the assessment, nursing diagnoses, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patients. This nursing process can also be implemented in aspects outside of nursing and on the nursing field as a collective group. The nursing role is evolving, following the process the outcomes have to be evaluated and put into perspective. Research is being completed the conclusions are all the same, the higher education of nursing care the better the patient outcomes. In an article published in Health Services Research in August 2008 that examined the effect of nursing practice environments on outcomes of hospitalized cancer patients undergoing surgery, Dr. Christopher Friese and colleagues found that nursing education level was significantly associated with patient outcomes. Nurses prepared at the baccalaureate-level were linked with lower mortality and failure-to-rescue rates. The authors conclude that ââ¬Å"moving to a nurse workforce in which a higher proportion of staff nurses have at least a baccalaureate-level education would result in substantially fewer adverse outcomes for patients. â⬠(AACN Fact Sheet, 2012) A Jewish patient is awaiting discharge after receiving an open heart procedure. The difference a bachelorââ¬â¢s educated nurse and an associate degree nurse may have on the patient can be profound in this scenario. A bachelors nurse will have a better understanding of the pathophysiology of this patientââ¬â¢s condition, instead of providing instruction on just the patient after care of the procedure the higher level education will allow the nurse to incorporate teaching of the patientââ¬â¢s condition that brought along the cause of the procedure, the nurse will be provide a broader education base to help the patient better understand the treatment and the conditions that they may face. The bachelors nurse will be able to better identify environmental factors, diet and exercise factors, and other stresses that could be changed to promote health wellness for the patient. The bachelors nurse will be more aware of community based health assistance and programs that will help the patient make more positive health changes. The bachelors nurse will be more aware of the patientââ¬â¢s religious requirements and needs, this may help the patient in making better overall health and wellness decisions. Also, BSN nurses have a more in-depth education in regards to ethics and religion, this may provide a more trusting bond between the nurse and patients allowing the patient to see that the nurse is there for providing care not only in his treatment but all aspects of the patientââ¬â¢s wellbeing. The history of nursing provides a great foundation and view on how nursing came into existence and how nursing has always strived for higher education. Before World War II great strides were made for university nursing programs, with the onset of war and the need for nurses, diploma and associates nursing found its place (Creasia and Friberg, 2011). Many feel that the nursing shortage is the reason that diploma and associates nurses programs still exist. Though, with the growing population that has increasing comorbidities it is more important than ever for nurses to have higher education. References American Association of Colleges of Nursing. 2012. Early Childhood Development The Psychoanalytic Theories...
Play is one of the most critical aspect of a child development. Play will positively affect a child physical, cognitive, emotional and social development. Children learns various skills through play that will benefit them for the rest of their life. Play helps children develop vocabulary and literacy capability, social skills. Research shows that children benefit, both from guided and unstructured play. Specialists define guided play as play structured to teach academic skills and concepts (Roskos, Tabors, and Lenhart 2004). Two major theories explain on the importance of play in early childhood development, the Psychoanalytic theories and the constructivist theories. The constructivist view focuses on play as a mean for children to construct knowledge. Through play children can experience pleasant and unpleasant situations (Charlesworth, 2011). Vygotsky emphasizes on representational play. for Vygotsky, the fantasy play in early part of a childââ¬â¢s life is critical for their d evelopment (Charlesworth, R. 2011). Representational play and the help of adults can help children creates a Zones of Proximal Development (ZPD) where children can build on of their skills and develop new skills. Through play children can pretend to be whatever they want without fear of rejection, or punishment. Freud, a social theorist, proposed a psychoanalytic theory where children form a conscience or superego through identification with the same sex parent (Cole Cole, 1996). Various Laboratory Tests on Cement Free Essays
VARIOUS LAB TEST ON CEMENT: Checking of materials is an essential part of civil engineering as the life of structure is dependent on the quality of material used. Following are the tests to be conducted to judge the quality of cement. 1. We will write a custom essay sample on Various Laboratory Tests on Cement or any similar topic only for you Order Now Fineness 2. Soundness 3. Consistency 4. Initial and Final Setting Time of Cement FINENESS OF CEMENT: We need to determine the fineness of cement by dry sieving as per IS: 4031 (Part 1) ââ¬â 1996. The principle of this is that we determine the proportion of cement whose grain size is larger than specified mesh size. Apparatus: The apparatus used are ) 75à µm IS Sieve ii) Balance capable of weighing 10g to the nearest 10mg iii) A nylon or pure bristle brush, preferably with 25 to 40mm iv) bristle, for cleaning the sieve Figure No. Sieve No. 200 Procedure to determine fineness of cement: i) Weigh approximately 10g of cement to the nearest 0. 01g and place it on the sieve. ii) Agitate the sieve by swirling, planetary and linear movements, until no more fine material passes through it. iii) Weigh the residue and express its mass as a percentage R1,of the quantity first placed on the sieve to the nearest 0. 1 percent. v) Gently brush all the fine material off the base of the sieve. v ) Repeat the whole procedure using a fresh 10g sample to obtain R2. Then calculate R as the mean of R1 and R2 as a percentage, expressed to the nearest 0. 1 percent. When the results differ by more than 1 percent absolute, carry out a third sieving and calculate the mean of the three values. Reporting of Results: Report the value of R, to the nearest 0. 1 percent, as the residue on the 90à µm sieve. Test To Check Soundness Of Cement: SOUNDNESS : Soundness of cement is determined by Le-Chatelier method as per IS: 4031 (Part 3) ââ¬â 1988. Apparatus ââ¬â The apparatus for conducting the Le-Chatelier test should conform to IS: 5514 ââ¬â 1969 Balance, whose permissible variation at a load of 1000g should be +1. 0g and Water bath. Procedure to determine soundness of cement i) Place the mould on a glass sheet and fill it with the cement paste formed by gauging cement with 0. 78 times the water required to give a paste of standard consistency. ii) Cover the mould with another piece of glass sheet, place a small weight on this covering glass sheet and immediately submerge the whole assembly in water at a temperature of 27 à ± 2oC and keep it there for 24hrs. ii) Measure the distance separating the indicator points to the nearest 0. 5mm (say d1 ). iv) Submerge the mould again in water at the temperature prescribed above. Bring the water to boiling point in 25 to 30 minutes and keep it boiling for 3hrs. v) Remove the mould from the water, allow it to cool and measure the distance between the indicator points (say d2 ) . vi) (d2 ââ¬â d1 ) represents the expansion of cement. Test To Check Consistency Of Cement : CONSISTENCY : The basic aim is to find out the water content required to produce a cement paste of standard consistency as specified by the IS: 4031 (Part 4) ââ¬â 1988. The principle is that standard consistency of cement is that consistency at which the Vicat plunger penetrates to a point 5-7mm from the bottom of Vicat mould. Apparatus ââ¬â Vicat apparatus conforming to IS: 5513 ââ¬â 1976, Balance, whose permissible variation at a load of 1000g should be +1. 0g, Gauging trowel conforming to IS: 10086 ââ¬â 1982. Procedure to determine consistency of cement i) Weigh approximately 400g of cement and mix it with a weighed quantity of water. The time of gauging should be between 3 to 5 minutes. ii) Fill the Vicat mould with paste and level it with a trowel. ii) Lower the plunger gently till it touches the cement surface. iv) Release the plunger allowing it to sink into the paste. v) Note the reading on the gauge. vi) Repeat the above procedure taking fresh samples of cement and different quantities of water until the reading on the gauge is 5 to 7mm. Reporting of Results Express the amount of water as a percentage of the weight of dry cement to the first place of decimal. Test To Check Initial And Final Setting Time Of Cement : INITIAL AND FINAL SETTING TIME : We need to calculate the initial and final setting time as per IS: 4031 (Part 5) ââ¬â 1988. To do so we need Vicat apparatus conforming to IS: 5513 ââ¬â 1976, Balance, whose permissible variation at a load of 1000g should be +1. 0g, Gauging trowel conforming to IS: 10086 ââ¬â 1982. Procedure to determine initial and final setting time of cement : i) Prepare a cement paste by gauging the cement with 0. 85 times the water required to give a paste of standard consistency. ii) Start a stop-watch, the moment water is added to the cement. iii) Fill the Vicat mould completely with the cement paste gauged as above, the mould resting on a non-porous plate and smooth off the surface of the paste making it level with the top of the mould. The cement block thus prepared in the mould is the test block. A)à INITIAL SETTING TIME : Place the test block under the rod bearing the needle. Lower the needle gently in order to make contact with the surface of the cement paste and release quickly, allowing it to penetrate the test block. Repeat the procedure till the needle fails to pierce the test block to a point 5. 0 à ± 0. 5mm measured from the bottom of the mould. The time period elapsing between the time, water is added to the cement and the time, the needle fails to pierce the test block by 5. 0 à ± 0. mm measured from the bottom of the mould, is the initial setting time. B)à FINAL SETTING TIME : Replace the above needle by the one with an annular attachment. The cement should be considered as finally set when, upon applying the needle gently to the surface of the test block, the needle makes an impression therein, while the attachment fails to do so. The period elapsing between the time, water is added to the cement and the time, the needle makes an impression on the surface of the test block, while the attachment fails to do so, is the final setting time. Superstition is the belief in supernatural causalityââ¬âthat one event leads to the cause of another without any natural process linking the two eventsââ¬âsuch as astrology, religion, omens, witchcraft, etc. , that contradicts natural science. Opposition to superstition was central to the intellectuals during the 18th century Age of Enlightenment. The philosophes at that time rejected any belief in miracles, revelation, magic, or the supernatural, as superstition, as well as unreasoned Christian doctrine. Sorcery the art, practices, or spells of a person who is supposed to exercise supernatural powers through theaid of evil spirits; black magic; witchery. Magic is an attempt to understand, experience and influence the world using rituals, symbols, actions, gestures and language. Modern Western magicians generally state magics primary purpose to be personal spiritual growth. Modern theories of magic may see it as the result of a universal sympathy where some act can produce a result somewhere else, or as a collaboration with spirits who cause the effect. Paksa 2: Paggamit ng Kapangyarihan Graft and corruption Political corruption is the use of power by government officials for illegitimate private gain. An illegal act by an officeholder constitutes political corruption only if the act is directly related to their official duties, is done under color of law or involves trading in influence. Forms of corruption vary, but include bribery, extortion, cronyism, nepotism, patronage, graft, and embezzlement. Corruption may facilitate criminal enterprise such as drug trafficking, money laundering, and human trafficking, though is not restricted to these activities. Misuse of government power for other purposes, such as repression of political opponents and general police brutality, is not considered political corruption. Neither are illegal acts by private persons or corporations not directly involved with the government. Di ako sangayon at panig dito. Nepotism Nepotism is favoritism granted in politics or business to relatives. The term originated with the assignment of nephews to cardinal positions by Catholic popes and bishops. Nepotism is found in the fields of politics, entertainment, business and religion. Di ako sangayon dito dahil dito nagsisimula ang pandaraya at pangungurakot. Paksa 3: Kasagraduhan ng Buhay Abortion Abortion is the termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo before viability. An abortion can occur spontaneously, in which case it is often called a miscarriage, or it can be purposely induced. The term abortion most commonly refers to the induced abortion of a human pregnancy. Genetic Engineering Genetic engineering, also called genetic modification, is the direct manipulation of an organisms genome using biotechnology. New DNA may be inserted in the host genome by first isolating and copying the genetic material of interest using molecular cloning methods to generate a DNA sequence, or by synthesizing the DNA, and then inserting this construct into the host organism. Genes may be removed, or knocked out, using a nuclease. Gene targeting is a different technique that uses homologous recombination to change an endogenous gene, and can be used to delete a gene, remove exons, add a gene, or introduce point mutations. Child Labor Child labour refers to the employment of children in any work that deprives children of their childhood, interferes with their ability to attend regular school, and that is mentally, physically, socially or morally dangerous and harmful. This practice is considered exploitative by many international organisations. Legislations across the world prohibit child labour. These laws do not consider all work by children as child labour; exceptions include work by child artists, supervised training, certain categories of work such as those byAmish children, and others. Republic Act 7610 o mas kilala bilang Child Abuse law. Hazing Hazing is the practice of rituals and other activities involving harassment, abuse or humiliation used as a way of initiating a person into a group. Substance abuse Substance abuse, also known as drug abuse, is a patterned use of a substance (drug) in which the user consumes the substance in amounts or with methods which are harmful to themselves or others. The term drug abuse does not exclude dependency, but is otherwise used in a similar manner in nonmedical contexts. The terms have a huge range of definitions related to taking apsychoactive drug or performance enhancing drug for a non-therapeutic or non-medical effect. All of these definitions imply a negative judgment of the drug use in question (compare with the term responsible drug use for alternative views). Some of the drugs most often associated with this term include alcohol, substituted amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines (particularlyalprazolam, temazepam, diazepam and clonazepam), cocaine, methaqualone, and opioids. Use of these drugs may lead to criminal penalty in addition to possible physical, social, and psychological harm, both strongly depending on local jurisdiction. There are many cases in which criminal or anti-social behavior occur when the person is under the influence of a drug. Long term personality changes in individuals may occur as well. Other definitions of drug abuse fall into four main categories: public health definitions, mass communication and vernacular usage, medical definitions, and political and criminal justice definitions. Substance abuse is prevalent with an estimated 120 million users of hard drugs such as cocaine, heroin, and other synthetic drugs. Paksa 4: Paggalang sa Dignidad ng sekswalidad ng Tao Pre-marital Sex Premarital sex is sexual activity practiced by persons who are unmarried. The prevalence of pre-marital sex has increased in both developed and developing countries. In some cultures, the significance of premarital sex has traditionally been related to the concept of virginity. However, unlike virginity, premarital sex can refer to more than one occasion of sexual activity or more than one sex partner. There are cultural differences as to whether and in which circumstances premarital sex is socially acceptable or tolerated. Social attitudes to premarital sex have changed over time as has the prevalence of premarital sex in various societies. Social attitudes to premarital sex can include issues such as virginity, sexual morality, extramarital unplanned pregnancy, legitimacy besides other issues. Premarital sex may take place in a number of situations. For example, it may take place as casual sex, for example, with at least one participant seeking to experience sex; it may take place between a couple living together in a long-term relationship without marriage; for a betrothed couple engaging in sexual activity before their anticipated marriage; and many other situations are possible. Sexual Exploitation Sexual exploitation is the sexual abuse of children and youth through the exchange of sex or sexual acts for drugs, food, shelter, protection, other basics of life, and/or money. Sexual exploitation includes involving children and youth in creating pornography and sexually explicit websites. Same-sex Marriage Same-sex marriage (also known as gay marriage) is marriage between two people of the same biological sex and/or gender identity. Legal recognition of same-sex marriage or the possibility to perform a same-sex marriage is sometimes referred to as marriage equality or equal marriage, particularly by supporters. The legalization of same-sex marriage is characterized as redefining marriage by many opponents. Prostitution Prostitution is the business or practice of engaging in sexual relations, in exchange for payment. A person who works in this field is called a prostitute, and is a kind of sex worker. Prostitution is one of the branches of the sex industry. The legal status of prostitution varies from country to country, from being permissible but unregulated, to an enforced or unenforced crime or to a regulated profession. Prostitution is sometimes also referred to as the worlds oldest profession. Estimates place the annual revenue generated from the global prostitution industry to be over $100 billion. Extramarital Sex Extramarital affairs are relationships outside of marriage where an illicit romantic or sexual relationship or a romantic friendship or passionate attachment occurs. An extramarital affair that continues in one form or another for years, even as one of the partners to that affair passes through marriage, divorce and remarriage, could be considered the primary relationship and the marriages secondary to it. This may be serial polygamy or other forms of nonmonogamy. The ability to pursue serial and clandestine extramarital affairs whilst safeguarding the secrets and conflict of interest inherent in the practice, requires skill in deception and duplicitous negotiation. Even to hide one affair requires a degree of skill or malicious gaslighting. All these behaviors are more usually called lying.

Lord of the Flies Summary
'Lord of the Flies' Summary William Goldingââ¬â¢s 1954 novel Lord of the Flies tells the story of a group of young boys who find themselves alone on a deserted island. They develop rules and a system of organization, but without any adults to serve as a civilizing impulse, the children eventually become violent and brutal. In the context of the novel, the tale of the boys descent into chaos suggests that human nature is fundamentally savage. Chapters 1-3 The novel opens with a young boy named Ralph and a chubby, glasses-wearing boy as they walk onto a lagoon wearing their school uniforms. We soon learn that they are part of a group of boys who were evacuated during the war and who survived the plane crash that followed what they suspect was an enemy attack. As Ralph and the other boy that there are no adults around, they decide they must attract the attention of any other surviving children. Ralph locates a conch shell and begins to blow into it, summoning the other boys with the noise. The chubby boy reveals that the other children used to call him Piggy. Ralph believes rescue is imminent, but Piggy argues that they must get organized because they may be stranded for some time. The other boys choose Ralph to be their leader, although the choice is not unanimous; the choir boys, led by Jack Merridew, do not vote for Ralph. Ralph gives them permission to form a hunting group. Ralph quickly establishes a rough form of government and order, exhorting the boys to enjoy their freedom, work together for their mutual survival, and maintain a smoke signal on the beach to attract any potential rescuers. The boys in turn agree that anyone holding the conch gets to speak without interruption. Ralph, Jack, and a boy named Simon are the popular leaders and begin a tense partnership. They explore the island and confirm it is deserted, but locate fruit trees and a herd of wild pigs that Jack decides he and his friends will hunt. The boys use Piggyââ¬â¢s glasses to spark a fire, but Piggy quickly finds himself an outcast despite his friendship with Ralph. Simon begins overseeing the construction of shelters, concerned for the younger boys- referred to as ââ¬âºlittluns.ââ¬â¢ Chapters 4-7 The initial burst of organization doesnââ¬â¢t last long, however. Without adults, most of the boys refuse to do any sort of work and instead spend their time playing and sleeping. At night, rumors of a terrible monster in the trees sparks a panic. Ralph insists monsters do not exist, but Jack says otherwise. He claims that his hunters will find and kill the monster, which boosts his popularity. Jack gathers a group of boys for a hunting expedition, which takes them away from the job of maintaining the signal fire. The fire goes out. Shortly after, a boat moves past the island, but does not spot the boys thanks to the lack of fire. When Jack and the other hunters return in triumph with a pig, Ralph confronts Jack, complaining that they missed their chance at rescue. Jack, angry at his moment being ruined, knows he cannot fight Ralph, and so beats up Piggy, breaking his glasses. As the boys cook and eat the pig ravenously- ignoring warnings about eating undercooked pork- Ralph tells Piggy he wants to stop being the leader, but Piggy convinces him to stay on. Piggy is terrified at what might happen if Jack took over completely. One evening, there is a dogfight between planes near the island, and a fighter pilot ejects. Killed in the air, his body floats down to the island and becomes entangled in the trees. A boy sees his corpse and parachute and is terrified, convinced that he has seen the monster. Jack, Ralph, and a boy named Roger head off to hunt the monster, and all three boys see the corpse and run in terror. Chapters 8-12 Now convinced that the monster is real, Ralph calls a meeting. Jack attempts a coup, but the boys refuse to vote Ralph down, and Jack leaves in a anger, saying he will start his own tribe. Roger sneaks away to join him. More and more boys begin to sneak away to join Jackââ¬â¢s tribe, lured by the roast pigs that Jack and his hunters are able to provide. Jack and his followers begin to paint their faces, and behave in an increasingly savage and primitive manner while Ralph, Piggy, and Simon try to maintain a semblance of order at the shelters. Simon, who sometimes suffers mental attacks, goes off into the woods frequently to be alone. Hiding, he observes Jack and his tribe perform a ritual designed to satisfy the monster- they impale a pigââ¬â¢s head on a sharpened stick and leave it as a sacrifice. It quickly becomes swarmed with flies, and Simon hallucinates a dialog with it, referring to it as the Lord of the Flies. The Pigââ¬â¢s Head tells Simon he is foolish to imagine the monster is a flesh-and-blood thing; it is the boys themselves who are the monster. The Lord of the Flies then tells Simon that the other boys will kill him, because he is the soul of man. As Simon walks away, he comes across the dead pilot and realizes that he has found proof that the monster does not exist. He runs back to the other boys, who have begun to dance in a crazed ritual. When Simon begins crashing through the trees, the boys believe he is the monster, and all the boys- including Ralph and Piggy- attack him in terror, killing him. Meanwhile, Jack has realized that while the conch is a symbol of power, the true power lies in Piggyââ¬â¢s glasses, which is the groups only means of starting a fire. Jack has the support of most of the boys, so he conducts a raid on Ralph and his remaining allies in order to steal Piggys glasses. Ralph goes to their home on the other side of the island, a rock formation known as Castle Rock. He takes the conch and is accompanied by Piggy and just two other boys, twins named Sam and Eric. He demands that Jack return the glasses. Jackââ¬â¢s tribe ties up Sam and Eric, and Ralph and Jack engage in a fight. Piggy, alarmed, takes the conch and attempts to address the boys, pleading for order. Roger sneaks up above Piggy and drops a heavy rock on him, killing the boy and destroying the conch. Ralph flees, leaving Sam and Eric behind. Jack hurts the twins until they agree to join his tribe. Jack orders the hunters to go after Ralph, who is told by Sam and Eric that they intend to kill him and impale his head on a stick. Ralph flees into the woods, but Jack sets fire to the trees to drive him out. As the flames begin to consume the whole island, Ralph desperately runs. Hitting the beach, Ralph trips and falls, only to find himself at the feet of a British naval officer. A ship spotted the flames and came to investigate. All of the children, including Ralph and Jack, suddenly begin to cry, collapsing in exhausted grief. The officer is stunned and expresses disappointment that good British boys would fall into such a state of misbehavior and savagery. Then he turns and studies his own warship contemplatively.
